Kwinana Power Station Demolition

Location: Kwinana, Western Australia
Commenced: October 2017
Status: In progress.

The Building

Kwinana Power Station, which is located in an industrial suburb of Perth, supplied energy to parts of Western Australia between 1970 and 2015. The facility used four turbines driven by steam from boilers fired by coal and natural gas, and had a capacity of 420 MW (2015).

Kwinana was fully retired in October 2015 after the State Government announced the final phase of decommissioning.

The Project

A major industrial demolition and remediation project of the Kwinana site commenced in 2017. The scope of works includes demolition of a 140-metre chimney stack and adjacent boiler house structure down to foundation levels.

Waco Kwikform was engaged to supply access scaffolding to encapsulate these structures to allow removal of contaminants.
A total of 3800 tonnes of scaffolding was supplied and erected.
